Red Rubin Basil
Red Rubin is the most dramatic basil you can grow: deep burgundy-purple leaves so richly colored they look like they belong in an ornamental border, paired with an intense, complex fragrance and flavor that's unmistakably basil with something more. A variety that earns its place in the garden twice over — as a striking ornamental and a genuinely excellent culinary herb.
HISTORY & HERITAGE: Purple basil varieties have been cultivated for centuries, prized as much for their ornamental value as their culinary use. Red Rubin was developed for its especially deep, uniform color and strong flavor. It holds its color beautifully even when cooked, making it a chef favorite.
CULINARY TIPS: Use exactly as you would green basil — in pesto (the color is a stunning deep purple-green), layered in caprese salads, blended into infused olive oils that turn rosy-purple, or as a garnish wherever visual impact matters. Also makes a spectacular deep-pink simple syrup for cocktails and lemonade.
GROWING GUIDE: Start indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after soil has warmed. Full sun essential. Pinch growing tips regularly to encourage bushy growth and prevent premature flowering. Harvest outer leaves frequently. Excellent in containers. Days to maturity: 60-70 days.
LIMITED RELEASE — Available exclusively in our signature cello packets, each featuring a mailable postcard with original botanical artwork.
