Tall Trailing Nasturtium
These cheerful, spicy red, orange and yellow flowers will climb anything you can put in their path and make your yard a 'happy zone'! Vines grow up to 12 feet in a season and the blossoms taste great in salads. Nasturtiums have no tendrils so they will need a little help in the way of tying-in if you want them to attach to something vertically. We love the idea of using some bamboo hoops to create a tunnel crisscrossed with some twine. Can you imagine anything more fun than climbing through a tunnel of flowers and soft green leaves?
Plant your seeds however close together you want them at 1” deep and keep well watered as they germinate. Nasturtiums like sun but can take a bit of shade too. They also tolerate the cold well and are often blooming away into the Fall until the first hard frost. An added bonus? The blooms are edible! Plant these cuties in full sun or part shade. They like poor soil so don't add fertilizer. Cover seeds with approximately 1/4 inch soil.
