Balady Aswan Celtuce
Celtuce is a type of stem lettuce and an ancient plant which appears often in Egyptian hieroglyphs. The lettuce-like leaves can be eaten but the real fun happens when the plant has “bolted” and grown a foot tall stalk. This stalk can then be harvested and peeled and is good raw or cooked (some people think it tastes like asparagus, some like celery).
Plant ¼” deep, 8” apart (or scatter seeds in a row and thin to 8” as they mature). Plant in early Spring or late Summer for a Fall harvest as it prefers the cooler temperatures.
